Address Unchanged (Lamentations 3:24)

Our society is changing in many ways. It has been estimated that one-third of the people in the United States change residences each year. To put it another way, America moves every 3 years. A mobile population! Then there’s the constant building and construction. During the 30 years I have driven the expressways where I live, I can’t recall a single month when construction wasn’t taking place somewhere on the freeway. And all those years, our city’s skyline has continued to zig and zag up and down like a jack-in-the-box. As someone has said, “This will be a fine place if they ever get it built.”

What is true of society and cities is also true of individuals. Life is full of changes. Friends of earlier years are forgotten. Relationships crumble under the storms of pressure. Distance, disinterest, and death destroy once-happy fellowships. Where, we ask, can we find permanence, stability – an enduring foundation for our lives?

Speaking to ancient Israel, God answered that question. He said, “For I am the LORD, I do not change(Malachi 3:6). That’s the principle behind Jeremiah’s statement, “Great is Your faithfulness(Lamentations 3:23). And the writer to the Hebrews said, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever(13:8).

Are you moving? Has your circle of friends diminished? Are you feeling the effects of change? Remember the psalmist’s words,Therefore I hope in Him. God never changes. His address is always the same.Paul R. Van Gorder

Let God be God – He does not change,

His truth, His love, always the same;

Exalted is His matchless name,

For God is God – He does not change. – D. J. De Haan
